India and Vietnam on May 6 elevated their ties to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and set an ambitious $25 billion annual trade target by 2030, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnamese President To Lam held wide-ranging talks in New Delhi focusing on trade, defence, and critical minerals amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
Welcoming President To Lam, PM Modi noted that the visit — coming within a month of Lam assuming office and accompanied by a high-level delegation —reflects the importance Vietnam attaches to bilateral ties. he two sides signed 13 agreements covering areas including digital payments, rare earth minerals, pharmaceuticals, education, banking, and culture, aimed at deepening bilateral engagement. China’s military activity in the South China Sea also featured in the delegation-level discussions.
