Suvendu defeats Mamata in Bhabanipur

The BJP stormed past the majority mark in the West Bengal Assembly on May 4, 2026 winning 202 seats in the 294-member House. But with counting of votes currently underway for 293 seats as polling in Falta will be held in May 21. Trinamula Congress voted out in west after 15 year. Mamata Banarjee’s TMC came to power in 2011.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Suvendu Adhikari wins from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram. Figures from the Election Commission of India (ECI) following the 20th and final round of counting in Bhabanipur show Mr. Adhikari winning against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by a substantial margin of 15,105 votes. This year the State saw a turnout of 92.8% in the first phase on April 23, while the second recorded 91.47 % polling on April 29 — the highest in the State since Independence, according to the State’s Chief Electoral Officer.
